I had 2 geforce 8500 gt's in an sli configuration. I unplugged both of them from the mobo when i switched out my wireless card, and reinstalled them exactly how they were. I set them in an anti static bag. After i reinstalled them, my computer wont boot with the second card. And it is specifically the card not the slot.

Solution
I would run it with one card and completely uninstall all of the drivers ( go through registry and delete all the files..) theres guides for this online :)
then reinstall the drivers for that card.. restart and shut down again then install your other card and install drivers for that one..
then try them both again in SLI hope this helped!

do you think drivers would actually prohibit the computer from even posting?

its a possibility that they got so outdated that they are preventing the computer from posting.. have you tried with just one card?
Also they are kinda old.. i'd suggest upgrading if its a possibility!

well it works perfectly fine with one card. you can tell the other is missing though. plus i think last i saw of a driver update for them was about 3 years ago. ill try updating drivers if possible and ill get back to you.
