I have a D-link dsl-2730u router, and i wanted to use it to receive WiFi signal and distribute it to wired PC's. but it seems that I got inaccurate info online about the Wireless Bridge function of the router.
The Wireless Bridge function on this router has two modes. Access Point, and Wireless Bridge.
You can see an simulator for a similar routers config here
http://suporte.dlink.com.br/suporte/emuladores/ADSL/273...

I'm wondering if anyone has used this function on this, or similar d'link routers? what are these two modes used for exactly?

Thanks in advance.

I use both Access Points as well as Wireless Bridges.

a Bridge is as the term indicates it "bridges" the gap between wired networks... as in, oyur wired from the ISP to the router, then wifi from the router to the Bridge device and wired from the Bridge to connected wired devices.

and access point is a device wired to a router that then creates a wifi network off of the wire router.

In my home I have a Dlink 868L router connected to a cable modem, from its GB wired switch I have an EnGenius Access point wired to my attic. In an Office upstairs I have a Linksys WET-200 WiFi bridge connected to the Engenius Access point and a compter with a wired connection to the WET-200... Got it?

Thank you for the reply.

I believe I wasn't clear. I do understand the general meaning of both Access Points and Wireless Bridge. What I wanted to know is how to use the option of Wireless Bridge in this specific device, as when I try to apply the general knowledge I have on this device, it doesn't work.

do you have another unit to act as your primary router? It looks like you'd loses that function if you set it as a bridge..

I do have another wireless router/modem which is connected to the internet. What do you mean by (you'd loses that function if you set it as a bridge)?

the router functionality... So, in the mockup, once you set it to Bridge you scan for your main wifi, connect to it and then you should have internet from the computer wired to it that you are running the configuration from.

Is that not happening?

When you say "once you set it to Bridge", you mean the secondary router, right?.. I'm just making sure as i'm a little confused by your phrasing.

Yes, it's not happening. I scan and find main wifi, but i get no connection on the PC thats connected to the secondary router.

one other thing I dont understand is that wifi signal from the first router is password protected, yet there is no way to add the password for the detected signal in the D'link router's configuration

" wifi signal from the first router is password protected, yet there is no way to add the password for the detected signal in the D'link router's configuration"

There is the issue, have you ensured the D-link dsl-2730u has the newest firmware? If so, what is the build date of that firmware. Depending on how old it is, it may not be compatable with your main router's (connected to the ISP) WiFi security

hunted22 , I have the same ADSL router and I am trying to do the same but have been unsuccessful. Were you able to set it up?
