im in the market for a cpu w/ an integrated gpu and i'd like to be at the $40-$70 price point. i've narrowed it down to amd a4-5300 and celeron g1830. i cant find a solid benchmark of the two with same hardware. im willing to sacrifice overall performance for better graphics but i find its real hard to distinguish how each differs. my first question is - is the g1830 in the same 'intel hd' class as the other haswell celeron. in other words, how many exec. units is it, 6, or 10gt1. i dont know much about those other categories such as open gl and direct x. my next question is how does the a4 compare purely in terms of graphics only.

The A4 has WAY better graphics and the Celeron has WAY stronger processing power.

For $70, you could get an A6 5400K, A6 6400k, Pentium g3220, or Pentium g3420

I recommend one of the A6s if you are concerned with graphics. The g1830 has 10 exec units.

i probably should have pointed out the fact that i am not a gamer, and will not be using 3d video games on my computer. im wondering if this changes things. according to this article http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/trinity-vs-ivy-bridge_10.html amd IS better at 3d gaming. but when it comes to most other tasks, i.e. watching youtube or looking at hi-res pictures, the intels win out. is this correct? i am also thinking that because the g1830 is in the haswell class of hd, that it would even be better than the cpus in said article, if only marginally. thoughts?

I would still go with an apu unless you you want to get the Celeron and add a HD5450 or 6450 video card. I just don't trust the Celeron's ability to play back HD video smoothly especially not 3D. The 3.6/3.9ghz A6 5400k is almost as strong as the 2.8ghz g1830(haha sounds funny doesn't it) in cpu power. There wouldn't be a noticeable difference in day to day tasks. There WOULD be a big difference in graphics power.

Hey where do you live? You know the Pentium g3220 is around the same price as the g1830 in the US. Partpicker lists the g3220 as $4 more and the g3420 is $7 more.

There's another recent thread on here with a guy saying his g3420 does great with HD movies.

you can choose G1830 ì you want a cpu with better performance, or if you don't have money enough to buy a graphics card and you want to play some game, you can choose a4 5300
