What would cause my VGA to cause horizontal wavy lines in games and dark areas on screen?

If I switch it out for a HDMI cable the lines disappear?

Yea the HDMI fixes the problem but I have dual monitors and the GPU only has one HDMI port. Is DVI Single Link better option than VGA?

DVI-D is digital. DVI-I is a connector that can be either digital or analog.

That screen will be DVI-D; your GPU probably has a DVI-I port and might have a DVI-D port too.
