Yeah, I'd definitely pin it on the CPU, but I don't think overclocking is going to help. For right now, Intel processors have a huge advantage in WoW. (I'm a WoW player too, btw.) The Bulldozer series AMD chips are particularly hamstrung in WoW. Fortunately, I've heard that Blizzard is working to fix this in the next expansion. For now, reduce the ground clutter and view distance as much as possible. Those two are CPU hogs that you don't need. That should help a lot.

your cpu is holding you back, you could try and oc it to around 5ghz it would help but not much, wow and other mmo's are highly cpu bottlenecked and mostly single threaded, in other words mmo's require good ipc and amd fx is a lot weaker then the old phenoms 2 there not to mention intel and there monster fast ipc

Fortunately, in Wrath of the Lich King, they made the game quad threaded, and by MoP it has become very multi-threaded, so your 8 cores should be helpful on that. I have a 6 core proc, and it does use all 6 cores, but avoids the HT "virtual" cores. I've been reading up on future development today and heard they are making special efforts to utilize all cores effectively on the latest AMD procs in the new version. That should help you out.

Thanks for picking my earlier post as the answer. :)
