the reason why is that i already own the gigabyte 7970 card and it is a really good card and it fits all my needs and play all games 60+ fps on ultra 1080p atm , thats why i would get the r9-280x since its just a rebranded 7970 with some higher clock speeds i know that a single card is much better then sli/crossfire in some games but there is not much better cards i can get then the 7970 its a really good solid card.

And if i go 3 screens eyefinity setup i think the crossfire setup will give me better peformance then 1 single card because the 7970 and r9-280x are really strong cards in xfire.

The performance will increase. However, when you CF the cards, they will snyc where the lower clocks will be used and the lowest VRAM will be used. That means the 3GB 280x will only be able to use 1GB and will be clocked to the same speed as the 7970. Considering VRAM is very important when it comes to higher resolutions, I'd sell the 7970 and get another 280x with more VRAM.

the 7970 is a 3gb card too and i have it at 1055 mhz clock atm so why would the r9-280x only use 1gb? since both are 3gb cards?

Sorry if i have missed something when you xfire

im not sure u will ever see limitations by your set-up on the gpu side although some after market coolers would give u longevity and better real clock rate in game.
the cpu side tho eh maybe...
i do not know what clock u have your 8350 at but 4.5ghz and your ram giving at least 1600mhz of threaded support with a 9 and bellow cas should stop u from ever lagging behind
