Hi,

I had a corrupt hard drive so I replaced it with an old one from another laptop. I used a recovery disk and wiped the hard drive.

The computer then came on again and I was able to re-install some of my programs. However, I am unable to connect to the internet. When I go into device manager it says I have no:

Ethernet Contoller
Network Controller
PCI Simple Communications Controller
SM Bus Controller

I have tried scanning for these but get error 'no driver found'

I have identified that my ethernet is Realtek RTL8168-8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit

I have made several attempts to download and copy from another computer via a memory stick but everything I try comes back saying I need to be connected to the internet...grrrrrr which I am unable to do.

Help - please use plain speech with any responses as I really do not know very much and am just 'winging it'

thanks in advance

Solution
Copying drivers from another computer is pointless as your laptop hardware is not the same as the hardware on a different computer, so the drivers are not the same.

You need to go to your laptop manufacturer's website to get the correct drivers for it. You don't need to know make & model of the device you need a driver for. All you need to know is the full model name & number of your laptop.

Of the four devices you've listed, you only need to install three drivers as follows:

Network Driver (wireless)
Network Driver (ethernet)
Chipset Driver

Install the Chipset Driver first
