Hello computer experts and ethusiats

is there any major/minor difference in the 3xxx or 4xxx of i5?

i have intention to get a new gaming computer as my current one feels rather obsolete and not suitable for current games.

I want some honest opinions, so please be frank.
whether the setup has bottleneck, or something being not compatible / pointless to get, or i should aim for something instead
budget should be around 1100 usd
MSI have a bad reputation of after sales service in my country as most people experienced/said, so this will be the last choice of brand for me

CPU: probrably i5 , 4xxx or maybe i7
CPU Cooler: TBA
Motherboard: having trouble deciding on this, preferably prefer soemthing that very lasting , a little futureproof and beastly/ample enough features ,chances are i be adding another gpu in a year time

Memory: corsair 8gb ?
Storage: wd 1tb hdd
Video Card: Gtx 770 2gb / 4gb
Case: aim for fractal design midi r2 ( seeing how its a very good case)
Power Supply: 850 wattt ? any good brand recommends? FYI, some are not available here

thank you very much for your time and help

thanks very much to you!

Hi,

The main difference between the 3xxx and 4xxx is the generation they below to. 4xxx is for the "Haswell" generation is slightly newer. Have an i5 from 4xxx generation is my system and I can personally tell you that it is very fast but runs hotter than the 3xxx generation. they fit in diffirent CPU sockets on the motherboard.

For cooling, you can use socket 1155 (3xxx) and socket 1150 (4xxx) coolers ON BOTH SOCKETS as the mounting is identical.

I don't know where you heared MSI is junk, but if you want to avoid the brand completely that's entirely possible. (I personally avoid Acer stuff as they break on me way too often)

Memory from Corsair is great but depending on your country can be very expensive.

GTX 770 is a beast, I can max out every game in FPS comfort with my Asus variant.

Case is great, have one myself. Overall very sleek but the dustfillters are a bit overkill IMHO and take away a lot of the airflow in the system. You could solve this by getting fans that are optimized for static pressure.

If you want to run a single GPU in your system a 600 watt PSU will give you plenty of power so no need for 850 watt PSU's. XFX, Seasonic, Corsair ( except for the CX series) and some other brands are great.

The most notable difference between Sandy Bridge (3xxx) and Haswell (4xxx) is power consumption, Intel lowered it drastically.
Gigabyte makes good motherboards

SO does ASRock

Since I dont know what country you're from, these are just pointers, you should give us sites you can buy from that are within your country, and maybe give us some keywords if they're in a language we dont know.

The 3/4 are different generations:
3*** = Sandy Bridge
4*** = Haswell

This means that based on the CPU that you use, you will have to choose a specific type of mobo.

Just for gaming, you can go with the i5 4670k, and regarding the motherboard, it depends if you have a desired brand.
Here`s just one of the multitude of compatible motherboards: Gigabyte Z87 G65 Gaming

Now, you should really think about getting a SSD with your build.

As for the PSU, look for Seasonic, Corsair, Silverstone, Antec, EVGA ones.

Once you get any parts that you think you like, post the links here for us to help you get the best for your money.

Storage - get the WD Green if possible, and 8BG of Corsair RAM at 1600 will suffice for gaming.

thanks al , first of all i didnt not say msi is junk xiem beast, just that on my end,

i heard from frens and forumers commenting that they have bad reputation on after sales service( IN MY COUNTRY , Malaysia), therefore if any warranty claim were to arise, i am hoping smooth exchange

so for the processor , this means that i have to get a mobo that only suits 4xxx, regardless if its i5 or i7? is that how is it suppose to be

hmmm.... evga and seasonic psu, they are not as familiar here in my place

what difference is the hdd / based on the colour ?

i5 4670k, i7 4770k and other Haswell CPU`s will work on the same socket.
Let us know what PSU`s you have available from the other companies I mentioned.

And the colour difference is like a quality ranking, and if I remember correctly Green is the best one (or it`s black and I`m wrong).

The ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX are sizes from large to small.
They will not get hotter, you just get more PCI-E slots on them the bigger they are. Hence you can add more GPU`s, WiFi cards, sound cards and who-knows what else.
