I just reinstalled the operating system on this laptop and know it's not up to date but the Windows Update button does nothing when I click it. The reason for the re-install is that that the disk drive failed so I bought another disk (500gb vs the 320gb that came with the computer originally) and re-installed Windows 7 thinking this was going to be an easy fix. :)
However, it's been anything but easy.
When I click on the "Check for Updates" button nothing happens.

As you can see from the picture below the notebook is running Windows 7 Home Premium.

So I try to run the FixIt app from Microsoft and get it won't run either.

Anyone have any ideas. Isn't there a Service Pack for Windows 7? If so, do I need to install it? Where do I find it? Microsoft list so many files that I don't know what I need.

If you actually looked at the pictures provided, you would see it says " Windows is activated"

I ran into this with a Toshiba, Potentially Your new 500gb hard drive is the 'newest' technology, to get past certain 'density' level, the wy data was put on an HD was changed, it seems to occur on the newest 500gb hd & avove & can affect older laptops when restoring your OS. There is an Intel RST (?) driver needed, amazingly the 'newest doesn't seem to work on older laptops. Hewlett Packard has a copy on their site (I believe it's version 9.4)
Check the above issues 1st & I believe MS has a 'fix' at their site if it isn't related to what I described.
