Got to check your PSU to see what card you could handle first. As far as COD goes, Ghosts is a horribly optimized game for PC- it doesn't even run smooth with a high-end card but it could be considered 'playable' with a mid-range card if you don't mind the issues. All other CODs are playable with even low-end new cards.

psu in my dell 690 is 1kw also im thinking of changing my cpu from 1 x xeon dual core to 2 x e5310 exon cpus would that make any difference as my dell 690 seems to struggle a little bit even when surfing the net or load up a few software packages

You're talking about the OPTIPLEX 690? Because if you're talking about that one, you'll need to get a low profile graphics card. And if it IS the OPTIPLEX 690, you won't be able to put dual Xeon processors in it. You'd have to swap out the motherboard. Unless the motherboard already supports two Xeons.

You'll definitely get faster speeds and boot times, but you won't see differences in your game. Most games depend heavily on the type of GPU you have, so having two quad core CPU's won't do much within the game. Personally I advise it! It'll give you faster speeds with different programs, and will make your overall PC experience faster. If the processors are cheap, I say go for it.
