I need a computer that would play most games on high resolution such that I would not experience lag, I don't need max FPS, just no laggy experience for most, not all games on high resolution. Furthermore, I will most likely be running lots of programs on the computer simultaneously and may need higher than average memory. I am not in need of anything top of the line, I just want it to have no weaknesses. I am looking to spend between $500-$800 if possible. I know how to build it, but don't yet understand compatibility so I am looking for help finding specific parts.

This would get you what you want easily. You'll want an i5 for no lag.
