I'm not even sure what I'm asking because I'm not a tech or network expert at all.
Basically, I have a CPU that was once part of a University network. My office has moved out of the University and gone independent since then but we didn't re-configure the computer before we left.
So now, when I boot the computer, it gives me a network log-in prompt that tries to log me into the University network/directory which doesn't exist at my current office anymore. It does give me the option to select a different directory: " **NAME OF PERSON** (this computer) ". But of course, she doesn't remember the username or password.
So, I can't log onto the machine see it's specifications (other than it's an XP) or set it up to operate on our new office network. It's basically a dead tower.
What can I do? Would I have to re-install the OS completely (I'm assuming I'd do that via the boot menu options and do a factory re-set or something?)?
Help please! Keep in mind, like I said, that I really don't know what I'm doing, I learn all my tech skills by Googling furiously, so step-by-step is REALLY appreciated!
Thank a bunch!
