Reusing Older Dell PSU in newly built PC= Performance Issues?

Can using an older Dell power supply affect computer performance at all? I'm not typing this on said computer, so I can't recall the model of the unit. However, I do know that my newly built PC (reused Hard Drive & Power Supply) has been freezing quite frequently while browser use and sometimes gaming. Certain times when I load up Dark Souls, my WHOLE entire computer freezes and crashes, forcing me to hard reboot by pressing the power switch on the motherboard (I'm running it without a case temporarily). I recently ran Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and it detected no errors. Could the PSU be the problem?

Without a discrete graphics card, a normal 300w psu is entirely adequate.
In the case of the dell, it is the +12v amps that are important. If most of the 305w is delevired elsewhere, that could very well be your problem.

See if you can't borrow a known good psu to test with.
If you can't, spend $40-$60 on a good Seasonic psu of 300w or more.

How much heat is it putting out the back? I need to know its exact rated wattage.

The maximum output is 305W, I believe.

My graphics/cpu is A6 5400K 3.6GHz. I only overclock it once in a while.

Yep. That 305W output will be an issue. A power supply can do its max output, but it gets loud and inefficient. I would get a different PSU.
