Do I need a 4gb GPU if I want to run modern games w/ mods at high/ultra settings?

First time builder, still working on my build. I jumped the gun and purchased a i5 4670k, so this is what my build will be based around.

Overclocking the CPU will be in my future but in my future, but not out of the gate.

I've decided on Nvidia's GTX 770 and have not settled on a Manufacturer yet, also I'm unable to figure out if 4gb is essential or if 2gb would suffice. I plan on playing Skyrim w/ all the mods I can find (new transitioning peasant so I want the most separation from console as I can possibly get), also Minecraft, BF4. Basically I want to run the games to the best of their ability, considering the CPU direction I have ventured.

I left my budget for the GPU pretty wide open, but I would prefer to stay under 500 bucks if possible.

Any/all help appreciated.

TL;DR
: Do I need a 4gb GPU to run modern games, max settings, with mods?

You don't need 4GB with any single monitor (if you're considering a 4K res, you're going to need a better card anyways). 2GB will suffice for now.

If you're that worried about VRAM, you could always get the GTX 780, which comes with 3GB of VRAM.

No. Its more about the GPU power as long as you have at least 2Gb.

The responses were great but I didn't feel 100% by the last answer. Also this question is more specific to 4gb vs 2gb. Is it essential to have a 4gb GPU?

In any case, thanks for your response.

Your response in particular was MoBo suggestions, when I was asking for GPU suggestions. So I guess I did not feel my question was answered. Thanks again.

There was no reason for me to add the GPU comments. They were correct. The answer to his one was listed in the last post by Immaculate.

Immaculate suggested I return my i5 and just wait for the Z97 chipset to get a MoBo. Granted I did ask for any/all suggestions, I did not suggest a complete rethinking. That was my fault.

My apologies overall. There are just too many decisions and this will be my first build in about 18 years. With how much things have changed, I am second guessing every aspect of this build.

In any case, thanks for your response. I'll try not to have anymore similar posts and settle on responses more decisively.
