Anybody knows why R9 290X increase core clock and memory clock during FullHD video play using DXVA2 and how to "fix" it? All video improving functions are turned off in CCC.

Details:
------------
Card: GV-R929XOC-4GD
Drivers tested: 13:12 and 14.2 1.3
Idle core clock: 300MHz
Idle mem clock: 150MHz
Core clock when using DXVA: ~1000MHz (nearly max, depends on video, but at least ~500MHz)
Mem Clock when using DXVA: 1250Mhz (it's max, any video)

Video: for example Samsung.Demo_Oceanic.Life.x264.1080p.40Mbps.mkv

It's really annoyning because GPU Temperature will rise to ~60C, fans will react and increase from idle 1220RPM to more than 2k so quiet card become the loudest component. :(

There's nothing to fix. The card is working as it should. However, you may be able to change the fan/temperature curve using MSI Afterburner or similar software. That would have the effect of preventing the fan from increasing speed so suddenly, however that could cause the GPU to run hotter. You could also play around with the clock settings and set up a profile to limit how much the clocks increase when watching video, which would also reduce heat.

Yes, this is already what I realized. But it is workaround, not fix. GPU should not increase its clocks if DXVA is really using dedicated UVD... Or at least not to max clocks as it is not needed anyway (tested with 50% cap).

What will be interesting if somebody can confirm this behaviour on reference or non Gigabyte cards?

Workarounds tested and working:
1) set manual FAN profile in MSI Afterburner (33% till 62C etc.)
2) hardcode max core/mem clock to 50% etc. (for example in Afterburner)
3) disable DXVA und use CPU only
