Hello!

I am a bit of a PC Newb when it comes to upgrading parts, and I'd love if i could have some confirmation/advice from you guys on upgrading my motherboard and cpu. I'm hoping to upgrade to this Cpu/motherboard combination. AMD A6-6400K (Amazon link) and this motherboard (Amazon link)
1. My first question would be are these two components compatible. I checked the sockets and they seem to match, but are there any other criteria I should be looking at if I want to make sure they match?

2. Will a 300w cpu be enough to handle both of these things? I was reading that the amd a6 processor only requires about 65w? And my current graphics card I have sips about 30w of power. Oh and just in-case this helps anyone, the motherboard im using currently has 12 pins (If anyone wants pics of my pc I can take some?) connected to it and additionally there's an extra 4 pin connector kind of just lying unconnected to anything.

3. If everything does happen to be A-ok, and I buy these said computer parts. Will I have to install any new programs or re-setup the operating system or something like that? Just I've never done this before, any helpful links you guys know of can be helpful.

Much thanks and love for anybody who responds for their kind help in advance. Ciao!

On many new computers with Win 8 , the key actually resides in the bios/mobo. An OEM license from an OEM pc is not transferable, A license from OEM WIN 8 that YOU buy from a legit dealer is usually transferable. If you do reinstall, you will have to re download/ re install everything. There are usually procedure to save your games data & 'move' it to the new install. Google something like 'moving PC games'.
Don't worry about it! (Sorry I can't give the answer you'd like to hear)

If that motherboard is identical (or almost so) to what you had, you *MAY* get away with out re installing everything, but you may not. A re install is still the best bet.

IF you are upgrading from an OEM pc (HP, Dell, etc) Your OS will NOT work, OEM OS's are tied to the original mobo & replacing them will cause the OEM to NOT boot at all. You WILL need a new OS in that case.

Ah i wish the motherboard was identical, but unfortunately I do in fact have to completely change the mobo. I was reading somewhere that, if I have windows 8 on my OEM pc, I can transfer licences or something like that? Would you happen to know of anything like that. Also since I do have to re-install, if I'm still using the same hard drive, will I have to re download and install any software/games that I already have now. OH and one more thing. Sorry I made a bit of a mistake with the CPU. I may have slightly found a better one in the last 30 seconds... Heres a link to it Newegg, it has the same socket, just its quad cores instead of dual core, will that make any problems with compatibility? Sorry to be putting all this on you, I probably should have prepped better... Also please excuse my english if I make some mistakes, it's not my first language. And also thank you so much for such a fast response, much thanks and love!
