I am looking to see which of these 2 GPUs (R9 280x and R9 280) is better price for performance. Obviously the 280x is more powerful, due to having more stream processors, but it is also a little more expensive. I want to get a new GPU, I am upgrading from my ASUS HD7850. I can get an R9 280x for $340 and an R9 280 for $290. Does the 256 stream processor difference between the two have a big effect on performance difference? What kind of FPS difference will I see between the two cards in a game like Battlefield 4? Is XFX a good brand to buy from? Thanks :)

My current build:
CPU: i5 4670k @ 3.4GHz
GPU: ASUS HD 7850
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 @ 2133
Motherboard: MSI G45 Gaming edition
PSU: Corsair TX 850M

XFX R9 280x option: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150678

Solution
Both have similar value to performance. I would say get 280x if you can afford it. Also, it would be the same as comparing 7950 and 7970 since these cards are re-banded versions of those cards.

Stay away from XFX. I have used them in the past (HD4890) but my friend got 2 XFX 280x and they both had major issues. The first card had corrupted memory and the 2nd has a BIOS issue where the screen flicked on 2D video. He returned that and got a Diamond R9280XD53GXOC with zero issues.
I have a Gigabyte R9 290 and have had zero issues with that card as well. I know anything mass produced you can get a lemon but two in a row.. means a bad product run and stay away

I just bought a Gigabyte R9 280x. Most reviews I have found say good things about it. What are your guys opinions?

Its listed on amazon at £201 but its out of stock atm so I took a risk and ordered it from pixmania.co.uk, where its at £207.90 incl shipping, but people don't seem to say good things about these guys. However I'm happy to say its in transit and currently travelling through France to UK :)

Anyway this card seems to be a good price...

The gigabyte cards with the windforce coolers are great! I actually have had the same card since its release and I have had no issues with it!

The gigabyte windforce 280x is arguably the best (aside from the sapphire tri-x) i have the gigabyte card and ive had nothing but good things from it. In the past i had an asus direct cu 280x and within 2 months i had memory issues and rendered the card unusable- asus RMA policy couldnt be more difficult to the point where i will not buy asus again ( i know many wont agree but thats my experience) gigabyte or sapphire all the way imo. But not the 2 fan sapphire with the purple box thats not a good card

In my opinion the MSI Twin Frozer keeps it cooler.

I friend of mine told me that he finds XFX a good company, and their GPU's reliable, i dont have any personal experience.
I'm planning on buying a XFX R9 280X aswell ;)

I believe that they're the only ones with lifetime warranty on their GPU's I'm not sure, don't quote me on that.
