ssd hard drive cache

i am buying a laptop and was looking at the y410p
one of them have a 1 tb hard drive with a 8 gb ssd cache
the other as a 24 gb ssd cache for almost 50 dollars less
is there any significant performance boost with the 24 gb cache?

the 8gb cache sounds like one of Seagates hybrid harddrives while the 24gb cache models probably uses a dedicated m.2 ssd to cache the hdd. You would likely need to verify this with Lenovo. The 24gb would be able to cache more stuff than just the os and a few apps but if you only run a few then either one should suffice. If the 24gb is indeed an stand-alone ssd you would have the option of upgrading it later.

Which option has a 7200 rpm drive? Once you dont have something cached you are stuck with the normal hdd speeds.

personally i would skip the ssd altogether and install an aftermarket one myself. If you are thinkig of going this route please make sure that you get a y410p that does have the m.2 slot as I have heard that some do...

Newegg only lists two, both intel's: 80gb and 180gb.
