I just purchased a 120GB Crucial M500 SSD to go w/this motherboard and have a couple questions. I'm a novice so please bare with me.

1. Which port should I connect the SSD to? Looking at the user manual of the MB, I'm not sure if it has 4 or 6 SATA2 ports.
2. Do I need to change any bios settings to have the SSD perform optimally?

Thank you

If this is your MB: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3265#sp
...connect the SSD to one of the blue SATA ports for best performance. Even at that, you will be limited to SATA II speeds. Then if you are clean-installing Win7 to the SSD, follow this tutorial: http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds

If you already have Win7 installed on the SSD or you've cloned your HDD to the SSD, follow these guides to get the best performance from the SSD and keep it from writing itself to an early death: http://www.computing.net/howtos/show/solid-state-drive-ssd-tweaks-for-windows-7/552.html

In either case, you will first want to set your SATA mode to AHCI in BIOS. That is...

clutchc, thanks for the response. That is my motherboard except I have rev. 1.0 and the one in your link is rev. 1.7. I will check to see if the ports are colored the same. I am planning to do a clean Win7 install and these guides are going to be extremely handy. Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure the color coding of the SATA slots will be the same. Your MB manual (pg. 25) will tell you which ports are off the Intel chipset and which is off the 3rd party chipset. Use the blue Intel chipset ports for better performance. Although, either will work.

Is there a difference between the the sata cord that has the straight plug vs the sata cord that has the L plug. The manual says to use the L shaped plug for HDD but i'm wondering is there is any difference between the two.

None that I'm aware of. Usually that is a disclaimer relating to the physical location of the device you will be connecting. Just advice, really. The L-end would be hard to connect to the side-ways mounted MB SATA headers, while the L-end is a neater fit for where most HDDs/SSDs are mounted. But I use which ever end works best for me.
