I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC. The harddrive became corrupted and it wouldn't start anymore. I had a guy try to fix it but he said he was unable to so it sat around for about two years. One day a few months ago I was checking it and it started up but it would die again until I bought a Neo-Smart recovery disk and now it starts fine. However, I have two problems. I used to have sound and the DVD drive used to work. Now I have no sound and get a message that no audio device is installed. what happened to it and how do I get sound back? Also, now the computer doesn't recognize when I put in a CD or DVD. How do I fix that? Thanks.

Hi maktovic,

Thanks for the response. However, I have no idea what the motherboard looks like or how to access it. Also, I don't understand the second suggestion. The CD/DVD drive is not a stand-alone so I don't see how I can connect it to a different sata port. One thing I should mention about the CD/DVD drive is that when I did the system recovery with NeoSmart, I did it with a USB drive. Without the USB drive in the port, it shows no CD drive. With the USB drive in, it shows CD Drive (D:) U3 System but nothing happens when I insert a disk.

Your motherboard is one of these

It's where everything plugs in. Open the computer if you can (if it's in warranty, don't, otherwise you'll void warranty)
