CPU running hot

Hi, my husband is the geek, but he has thrown up his hands at this because it seems to only be happening when I'm gaming. My CPU will normally run at around 37c, but when I'm gaming it gets up around 60c rather quickly (per ASUS). Not sure what info is needed.

I will type the sys info from ASUS:
Caption: AMD64 Family 21 Model 1 Stepping 2
Name: AMD FX(tm)-8150 Eight-Core Processor
Socket: AM3r2

Do you need other info?

Gaming can be very hardware-intensive compared to regular usage (browsing, using office, watching movies etc), so it's not unusual for the temperature to go higher - though 60C is a bit too high. Try and find out what CPU cooler you're using. Also, you could check whether there's dust clogging the CPU cooler, or the case intake and exhaust.

Well, I will check, but I'm pretty sure it's a stock cooler. I've read a lot of posts about the thermal paste and how it should be re-applied and re-seated. I don't think he's ever done that on our puters. Will discuss both with him and get back here with the results. Dust is not an issue (clean). There is an intake fan in the front, an internal fan with the CPU, and one outtake fan in the back... not sure if there is another internal fan or not. There really aren't any more places to put a fan on my case, unfortunately. Thanks for your help!

You are speaking geekinese (I say that fondly), sorry. You say '8120', but my information says 8150. Is there a difference? Do you have a great link to information on 'heatsink' please? Thanks for your help!

The 8150 can go up to 75c just fine, AMD just said 64 is the max to avoid lawsuits. Those temperatures are safe, and you don't need to worry about your computer catching fire or anything, but you could definitely stand to get an aftermarket cooler. You can get a Hyper 212 Evo that should fix your problem for $30. Another option is getting another 80mm fan to put on the other side of the stock heatsink for a push/pull setup. The "heatsink" is your CPU cooler.

No dust, and I will check on what cooler it is. Wish I knew where to look for that info. Thanks for your help!
