So I'm planning on starting a new build. Mainly for photo and video editing and productivity
I'm not looking for the top of the line WS build but just a build where it's at the sweet spot for me.

My build: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/adankim/saved/3yNM

I've heard the px79-e ws is one of the best mobos for a workstation build however. I don't find any use of that many expansions slots. I also don't plan on going into 4-way sli etc. so I thought the px79 was perfect. Also if anyone could let me know of the difference between the px79 and the px79 pro that would be appreciated.

As for the graphics card.... It took me a while because I won't be playing much games on the comp but I also needed a card which had a sufficient amount of cudo cores. I do plan on saving up for a mid range quadro in the future. Most likely a k4000

Thanks guys!

The WS series are great for WS / gaming builds .... great support policy on them too.

Mainly ......

4 way (WS) versus 3 way SLI / CF
SATA Ports - 4 6Gbps + 4 3 Gbps on the WS .... the Pro adds 2 e-SATA ... and the PX79 has 2 6Gps, 4 3 Gbps and 2 e-SATA
USB (3.0 / 2.0) - WS has 4/13, Pro has 6/12 and X79 has 4/14

Nice build specs. Fast processor, fast graphics card.

You say PX-79 but your list says Asus Maximus VI Extreme, royalty in OC kingdoms.

You also say you have no use for extra expansion slots or 4 way SLI. Are there other boards that suffice for your specs that would allow something like faster RAM or larger SSD or spinner storage?

Have you thought about 2x8 as your RAM pick? Headroom without replacing 4x4's later, just add more. For the Extreme board GSKILL Trident X is supposed to ramp up on installation.
