My used pc came with xp no restore discs and malware so badly it died says to boot from cd, not possible. Problem 2 since it died i ripped out the main 160gb ide hdd and want to use the sata 500gb blue caviar hdd that was the secondary drive in it i also want to run my optical drive as sata seeings its sata only.
So question is if i throw in W7 disc to fresh install will it work out for me and auto config my optic/hdd automatically? Or do i need to adjust my mobo bios to run them in sata b4 i run the W7 disc mobo is a gigabyte brand GA-EP45UD3P ld prefer the hdd to be sata port0 and optic drive to be port1
Please respond in noob terms lol

Solution
SATA is the type of connection, Windows does NOT determine it, it is a physical way the connection is created between a device (drive) and I/O port (on the motherboard). W7 will run fine.
