Need help in upgrading AMD Sempron 140 processor

Hi Techies,

My PC is very slow with the current processor.I want to upgrade my processor in my PC.I need your help in choosing the right processor that suits my computer's configuration.Below is my system's configuration.Please help me.

Manufacturer : Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd.
Model : M61PME-S2P
Socket:AM2+
Bios ver: F2
Processor : AMD Sempron 140
Speed : 2700 MHz
No.of cores : 1
RAM : 4 GB
Graphics Card: NVDIA GeForce Galaxy 2 GB
PSU:450 W

Any Athlon II or Phenom II from this list will work after a bios update. I would recommend at least getting a quad core model.

As my socket type is AM2+,processor with socket AM3 is better or AM2?

Please suggest me..:)

As far as I know, the newer the socket, the faster? Also, you'll have to reinstall your OS after upgrading.

Is the AM2+ compatible with AM3? If so, get something new if you can.

AM3 is newer and will probably be easier to find. As long as the CPU in question is on that list, it will work. You will just have to possibly update bios first. Sempron 140 is an AM3, just as an FYI.
