Hi there,
I'm using a Netgear router, and using Netgear Genie to manage the network - and I have tried blocking Facebook on the network. So I added the keyword 'facebook' to the block list, and it works if you try to type in 'facebook.com' in the URL box. However, people can get past this by simply typing 'facebook' into Google Search and clicking the first search result.

Does anybody else have this problem? Is there a fix?

You best bet is to use something like opendns on the router if it supports it. You might get by with the free version of opendns but it is not real expensive if you need more advanced options. The other thing you need to do is block port 53 to prevent the simple change the DNS in the PC trick to bypass you. They still can get past pretty easy by using a host file and a proxy to do dns queries.

You could try to block ips 173.252.64.0 - 173.252.127.255

The smart users will just use one of the many proxy servers like hidemyass to get past your ip block.

The only true way to block these is with a more advanced firewall type of device that you can put in advanced filter lists but you generally have to pay a monthly fee for those lists.
