hey guys looking into buying the asus gtx 770 as ive given up looking at amd too many bad reviews etc etc...... anyhow on to my question.

I have an antec vp550p psu with 30amps on both 12v rails but my actual question is the power led feature on the card.

When i plug my two 8 pins in which is what this psu has will it work or will it give me the red LED and just not power up??

any help and view welcomed.

Thanks

What's the rest of your spec.

It likely can power without a problem but need to make sure.

Try it. If there is a problem, connect one eight pin from each rail and there will no issue.
550w is ok but the recommended min is 600w

You will run fine with that PSU for your system, I would run the GPU at stock speeds to be safe though.

What's the difference between ASUS and MSI 770?

Does the MSI use 6pin connectors?

Oh it won't do that.

The reason 600W is recommended is because Nvidia don't want to be sued if your system dies by using a junk PSU.

either card will work fine + the AMPS on the PSU is more important than the stated "wattage"

well mine is 550w and says on the side it have 2 +12v rails each rated at 30amps so im guessing that equals 60amps and the 770 only requires 42amps??

like i said, it' is ok. If there is a problem (I don't believe there will be), just use one plug from the other 12 v rail. The power draw is thereby split in two with no problem in supply. Why is no one reading that (listening).

i have 8 x 12v rails and can effectively power 4 top end cards.
My current HIS 280x's are using 4 x 8 pin from from different rails, because the cards VRM is non reference. Same theory at a much lower scale applies here.

well is one an eight an one a six?
If so i'm picking your fine.
If not i'm still picking your fine. You can use the 4pin molex adapter that come with card to power the other plug.
If by some strange reason it don't come with one, it can be purchased for approx US$2:50

both are six pin pcie but have the extra 2pins on the side so effectivley can both be 8 pins

Then you have no problem. Ie your molex connectors will be on the other 12v rail, so if it it turns out there is a power delivery problem with 8 and 6 on same rail. Just use the adapter for the six pin gpu connection

ah actually one sec lol so if i have 30amps on the pcie rails this requires 42amps so surely id have to connect via the other rail aswell or just plugging in my two pcie plugs would also be the same?? lol sorry dude

in other words just use 1 pcie 8 pin and then standard 6 pin on same bit of cable will work??

or the 8 pin from the pcie bit then the adapter from a molex

that depends on how the two rails are setup, usually the pci-e connectors would be on the same rail. Either way it is solvable by either aforementioned methods.
