I've bought an HDMI monitor (Philips 227E4LHAB) which is often used with the PS3 and is said to be easily installed..

Whenever I turn on my playstation and the monitor, it says "check cable connection", when I change the monitors' input to VGA and than back to HDMI, the screen where the PS3 asks to use HDMI as video and audio output comes on
Whether I agree or not, it goes back to the "check cable connection" error.

I've tried different HDMI cables, that do work on my tv, but it keeps doing the same. I've also tried the reset on the playstation (hold powerbutton when it's off), no result.

Can someone please help? I've promised my boyfriend a gaming night

Either the monitor or PS3 is faulty. Have you connected the PS3 to a TV to verify that it's working correctly? How about connecting the monitor to another HDMI device? If you follow the process of elimination theory, you'll find the source of the problem.

As far as the PS3 is concerned, it can't differentiate between a monitor and a TV, an output is an output.

Thanks for your response.
I've got it to work changing the settings using another HDMI screen. The problem is still there, but now it's less severe.
The screen works most of the time, but whenever I stop or start a game or application, the message "check cable connection" comes on, if I restart the monitor it works again, but it's quite annoying that I always have to switch my monitor off and on.

So, does the PS3 work if you connect to it the TV with the same HDMI cable? If it does, then the monitor is definitely the cause and it would seem that the HDMI port isn't hot-swappable. Monitor ports are always hot-swappable so if it only detects a device at power-on, there's clearly a fault with the monitor.
