Hi there,

I have upgraded my domain to be able to utilise IMAP connectivity as I have bought a new laptop and its running Win 8.1.

However I have an older laptop running vista that is using the same domain for emails and is set to POP connectivity.

So I have set up the outlook account on my Win8.1 laptop and it seems to have worked but I cant see any of my past emails on this account. Is there some sort of contention between to the Win Vista POP account and the Win8.1 IMAP account??

Thanks for any help you can give.

POP clients delete all previous emails (from that account) off the server when they get them.

You can't (technically can but it won't work well) have an IMAP and POP client hooked up to the same email account, though different accounts on the same domain are fine (or you'd have problems if one person using GMail wanted POP...).

Hi there,

Thanks for your quick reply.

So for example if I had the domain test.uk.com

And the person who owned the Win8.1 laptop had an IMAP Outlook account - john@test.uk.com

And the person who owned the WinVista laptop had a POP Outlook account - dave@test.uk.com

Is this viable or will it cause a lot of contention??

Thanks for your help.

That should be perfectly fine. However, john@test.uk.com won't be able to get to the emails that were sent before he moved to IMAP. They would need to be exported and re-imported.

Thats fantastic thankyou for that. I am now fully up and running.

So what I decided to do was IMAP all my machines and just export my Personal Mail File from the POP account and then import it to the IMAP and it works great.

Final query:-

I would like to have a number of accounts on this IMAP domain that get seperate emails.

ie - I want john@test.co.uk + dave@test.co.uk to be able to get seperate emails instead of them both just be syncronsied with the one central repository.

Is this possible or do I need to pay for another domain or something in addition to what I have currently??

Thanks for the help

Them getting separate email (e.g. an email to john@test.co.uk goes to john but not dave) is normal. Or GMail would have serious issues...

However, your hosting provider may limit you to n mailboxes. One mailbox is essentially an email address.
