I have a sapphire amd radeon 6800 series graphic card and have been beta testing the Elder Scroll online pc game. I have a 500w Ace psu. I can play Skyrim without any problems. Since playing the online game on high quality graphics, my psu cable fuse had to be replaced every half hour. I changed graphic quality to low and found the game played continuos with no problems. My pc shop says I need a new graphic card yet someone else said I need a higher watt psu. I don't want to buy a new card if it is not needed as cant afford another one. The pc is 2 years old and spec was built with Skyrim in mind. Can anyone tell me if they think it is just a psu I need as this would definitely be cheaper than a new graphic card. the game launches in 2 weeks so want to get it sorted so I can play it. I know a bit about pcs in so much I can chnage a graphic card or hard drive but that is about my limit. Am not a young gamer by a long way. 61 yr old female who is hooked on Skyirm. The rest of the system has the following.

amd radeon sapphire hd 6800 series
amd athlon(tm) II X4 640 Processor 3.00ghz
ram 8gb
64 bit operating system
1tb hard drive
windows 7 home premium.

all 6800 series need a 500 minimum which shouldn't be a big deal. but if you have to keep changing cable fuses maybe it is time for a new power supply...they aren't dreadfully expensive and a 600w power supply should suffice. if the problem keeps persisting then maybe it is time for a new video card.

I was getting problems with the screen freezing when using the pc in general. It would reboot itself but sit on the start up screen where it shows your temperature etc. I took it to a local repair shop and was told it was the hard drive that was toast. I bought a new hard drive and had it fitted. When i got the pc home I connected all the cables and went to power it up and nothing. I rang the pc guy and he said it was working when it left him so must be the power supply gone. Back to the repair shop and he tested it and said psu was dead. the original was a 600w. With this in I had no problems playing the beta ESO on ultra high quality. I already had a spare 500w ace psu that was still new in box so i asked him to put that in. Since putting the 500w in, thats when the cable fuses kept blowing but only when I played the online game. Hence lowering the graphics quality so I could play it. Rang the same pc guy who said it could be graphic card or psu not powerful enough for the card and said replace both. Yet power supply has been in 1 week. Can't afford to keep paying out for things I may not need.

Do you think a 600w will be adequate or should i buy a b igger one for any future games that come out in time that may need bigger. There are so many psu's to choose from it is hard to know what one to buy.
Many thanks for your help.

bigger power supplies doesn't mean better performance. it just shows how much wiggle room you will have for future part upgrades (i.e. newer processor, graphics, more ram, etc.). i believe a 600w will do just fine.
