I have an off the shelf Dell Inspiron 531S and want to add a second drive. Will a WD2500JB Caviar SE EIDE 250 GB hard drive be compatible with my current system?

Solution
You may be out of room, you would have to check.

Technically any IDE drive can be a "Slave" because they use a Master/Slave arrangement.

It is getting harder to get IDE drives, so if the system happens to have room and a SATA port, that is the route I would go with for internal storage.

I'm sorry, that was my ignorance in wording it that way. I was speaking of another hard drive that I wanted to ADD as a slave.

Thank you VERY much for your response, dang that was quick!!

Some cases also have a space for a hard drive on the case floor assuming you are not using a slim line case. Dell was kind of bad for releasing more than one system form factor under the same model

Remember to set the jumpers when you setup this second drive.

On the cable it should be.

that pc is a sata system and there are two drive bays. if it has enough sata ports left, this would be the best route for internal storage
