Hi all, my graphics card broke and I have decided to wait for a price drop in the current top of the line Nvidia cards before purchasing a new one. As of recently, I have been left to play older titles with my i7 4770k (HD4600 iGPU) and for instance in Bad Company 2 after about 20m of playing my game freezes and a stuck/repeating noise plays through my speakers. I am not overclocking anything (since I only have a stock cooler and I don't feel like frying another component), I simply let Asus' AI Suite tune my CPU clock speeds while gaming and I have managed to get a stable 35-40 FPS at 1080p with custom settings. AA, HBAO and FXAA all disabled; textures and map details on high; as well as shadows and effects at medium.
Am I pushing the CPU too hard? My PC has frozen 3 times already, have I damaged my CPU if the cause is overheating?
P.S. I checked the temps my PC was running at after it froze and it was never above 80°C. The intel website lists the max temp for an i7 to be around 105
