to run games better like Castlevania lord of shadows 2,Fifa 13,14 Need For Speed on intel pentium 4 HT 661 3.6Ghz , 3Gb Ram and Nvidia GT 220 1GB is better to remain on win xp or go on win 7 for better performance?

Not sure it would make much difference really you are trying to run new games on out dated hardware and software. Weather you go Windows XP or Windows 7 they are both outdated and obsolete at this point but then so is the hardware so I would say with the low amount of ram and very low GPU stick with XP that would be the best fit for that hardware. Although I really do not think you will still be able to run those games at a good frame rate with that hardware.

XP will no longer be supported by Microsoft after 4/8 (next month).

This means no patches and every hacker will be looking for a way to take advantage of this.

You should go with Win7 (or higher) .

agree.ive run win7 on older hardware than that and had good results.you may not find drivers for your hardware on the manufacturers site but win7 will install default drivers and they work.i had win7 installed on an old single core pentium d with1.5gb of ram and it was noticeably faster than xp.another thing to consider is that support for xp is done in april while windows 7 is supported until 2018.you have nothing to lose by trying.

This will lower his performance though. Windows 7 requires many more resources than XP and in a situation like his, he needs all the processing power available dedicated to whatever game he is playing. Avast! antivirus will work fine and is free.

It's a lot more resource hungry. Go check out the minimum PC requirements for windows xp and windows 7. Windows xp, you need a Intel Pentium 233Mhz and 64MB of RAM. For windows 7, you need a 1GHz CPU and 1GB of RAM for 32bit and 2GB for 64bit. These are the dead minimums JUST FOR THE OS. Windows 7 requires a lot more... There's a reason why professional overclockers often run Windows xp or they disable as many features as possible in Windows 7 which ends up looking a lot like windows XP anyway. The OP's question is if he will receive better gaming performance. The answer is no, and there's a possiblity it may reduce performance a noticeable amount.

just because win7 has these hardware requirements doesnt mean his machine will run slower on win7.he has both enough processor as well as enough ram.just because xp had lower hardware requirements didnt make it a faster os.i will stand by what i said earlier.if you cant afford to upgrade your hardware upgrading to win7 is a good option.and where did all these professional overclockers using xp suddenly come from??? all professional means is that they get paid for what they do and in no way means they are any more or any less competent than an "amateur" overclocker.bottom line and all stats aside, ive used both operating systems on old hardware and win7 is the faster of the two.if you want to stay with an outdated malware magnet after april 18 by all means use xp.
