Which CPU is faster?

Hi,

I ordered a desktop for a customer. The CPU description was "2.8 Dual Core".

When I received the system, it turned out to have an Intel Core 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13 GHz, according to the CPU-Z utility. I complained to the seller.

The seller wrote back and said he would be willing to replace it with a Pentium D at 2.8 or even 3.0 GHz, but that there was more to consider than just clock speed.

I'm a little intimidated by this. Can anybody tell me how these two processors compare, and whether I should get a replacement for my customer?

Thanks,

Lou

this is all pretty old hardware.i dont think there will be much if any noticeable difference in performance.the pentium d was intels budget line of processors and if it was up to me i would go with the core duo.it doesnt sound like you customer is getting this for gaming and having owned a core duo i can tell you its just fine for surfing the net emails etc.he may want to upgrade his graphics depending on what is in it now.

Thanks to everyone who answered. The customer's needs are basic, no gaming - mostly he just wanted to replace an old XP system with something that would let him surf the web and do basic office tasks. I'll tell him to stick with the Core 2 Duo CPU.
