I have a Noctua D-14 and a pair of Corsair Vengeance 16gb ram sticks.

I have two questions: can the cpu fan face upwards? I removed the stock fans that were up there and since it's a pretty big fan is it possible that it'll pull in fresh air by itself? I cannot possibly put it facing any other way because of the RAM, only towards the back exhaust fan which wouldn't make much sense .... is it okay facing up, it wont like blow super hot air towards my GPU or disturb the airflow? I have three intake fans up front and one exhaust in the back.

And my other question would be if the ram sticks can be next to each other and not one slot in between as I see in most builds. My mobo's ram slots are all black and there is no way I can fit them any other way than next to each other; the cpu fan blocks two of the slots.

I realize I din't do enough research or else I would've gotten a small profile ram, which I prob will do in the future if this setup isn't good.

I really need help, I'm afraid to move any further and then have to take everything apart or not have it boot. :(

Thanks in advance! :ange:

Running RAM directly next to each other eliminates running tem in dual channel, I believe. And that's the whole point of getting two modules.

I have the same incredibly large cooler, I just had to move the fan that was interfering with the RAM slots up about an inch or so.

Noctua has a motherboard and ram compatibiltiy list on their website. I don't know which of the two D-14 models you bought, but here is the part list: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=produkte&lng=en
What is your motherboard make and model?
What ram do you have?

You want the air to flow from front to back of the computer. So you would want the Noctua to blow air out the back of the computer. Usually you would the fan blowing air through the heatsink and towards the back of the computer.

I have the AsRock Z77 Extreme3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

It's listed in their list, I think it's the ram that's too tall.

I have the Corsair Vengance, that's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

So I wouldn't be getting the full 16gb ram if I leave them as they are? Would it be like only using one then? WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I TURN THE PC ON WITH THEM TWO TOGTHER? :(  I don't necessarily know what dual channel is besides that that's the recommended setup ... this is my first build haha. ( EDIT: just looked it up, so now I know :p )

I think I might just end up buying a lower profile ram, but I really like this one ):

Thanks for the answers!

Oh, so is it super bad if it's blowing hot air out towards the video card? :(  I won't over clock or nothing till I can fix it's position and/or get new ram, so it wont be running SUPER hot, would it then be okay for a while?

You can check this list before you purchase other ram. Most ram with any type of heatfins or decoration will not work with most aftermarket cpu coolers as the ram will be too tall.

Okay, will check for next time, thanks a ton! One more question and I'm done, so if I leave the two stick of ram next to each other, they won't work in dual channel but will still provide me with 16gb or ram right? Not just 8 ....

yes, they will work and show the full amount of ram that your operating system supports.
32-bit Windows supports up to 4gb of ram and 64-bit Windows, supports more than 4gb to 128gb, I think.
