I just purchased a zalman cnps9700 for my computer. I upgraded from the stock fan that was in it. Once I put it all together the way it said in the directions and plugged it all in. The moment I turn the power on it spins up fans kick on then it shuts down. My mobo is a Asrock z77 extreme 4
Many times aftermarket fan makers put a thin slip of plastic on the bottom of the heatsink to protect it. Did you verify that there wasn't one on there or that you removed it before installation? Also, verify that the heatsink is properly installed with the proper amount of thermal compound. The computer shutting down shortly after start up after a new heatsink installation leads me to think it's a thermal issue.
