Hello,
I recently purchased new RAM for my Pavilion dv6-3143us laptop .(2x4GB G.skill )
As far as I can tell it should be compatible with my laptop, but for some reason, after plugging it in Windows 7 Enterprise fails to start and I get this message "A recent hardware or software change might have caused the issue"
I updated my BIOS drivers and got the same result.
The Bios reads that there is 8GB of memory installed and the memory passes the start-up and BIOS memory tests.
Is there something I overlooked?
Anyone have any ideas for a fix?
Thanks in advance!

That HP seems to be one of the ones with whitelist hardware bios.

Back in the mid-late 2000s HP locked their bios down to only allow their handpicked hardware brands/parts to work with the bios.

Oof. That might explain it. Crucial claims that their memory is guaranteed to work for my laptop. They must be on the whitelist. So I suppose I will have to order from them and return the sticks I bought off newegg.

Thanks for the info.
