Hi Guys,

I've just upgraded my CPU to the AMD FX 6300 I've applied new thermal paste to the CPU and my Artic Freezer Pro R2.0. At idle I am seeing an average temp of 28c-30c using HWinfo/CoreTemp/Speed Fan.

As soon as I launch Any Video Converter and try to convert some movies my temp goes straight from 30C to 40C then after 10 seconds its around 68C.

I've taken apart the heat sink three times and ensured there is enough thermal paste and its well connected.

I don't know what else to do? If I need to change my heat sink I'd really only like one which doesn't require me to fit a back plate! I've disabled AMD Turbo but still getting the same problem.

CPU: AMD FX6300
HEATSINK: ARTIC FREEZER PRO 7 R2.0
CASE FANS: 4
O/S: WINDOWS XP
MOTHERBOARD: ASUS M597 r2.0
Memory: 8GB

Solution

I was able to install a 212 EVO by removing the back-side panel to access the back of the motherboard to install the backplate. (In a Coolermaster Elite 430).

In short, yes you should be fine if you can remove panels on both sides of the case.
So when you have removed the heatsink have you cleaned off and replaced the thermal paste? If not, you need to do so. I'd recommend using the pea method. Also remember that with thermal paste often less is more.

EDIT: Just found a review of the cooler. Seems your temps aren't that abnormal. At full load (you'll likely reach that when video converting) it reached about 77C with a processor that also has a 95W TDP like your 6300.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies, I did remove all the previous paste. Looks Like I will have to get a cooler, and yes I do not wish to remove the motherboard as I've finally got everything setup perfectly in terms of all the wiring neat and tidy!

Can you guys recommend any other coolers?

Will I see any difference with any of these the freezer pro 13 or the xtreme rev?

Sorry also wanted to say when I remove the other side of my case cover I do have access to the back of the motherboard..would this allow me to install the Hyper 212 evo? or would I still have to take the whole board out?

Yes, that should allow you to install the backplate without removing the motherboard.

Thanks for the replies I will go with the Hyper 212 Evo if you anyone can please confirm that by having access to the backplate of the motherboard by removing the side case panel I will be able to install it?

I have the cooler master centurion 6

Hi Guys,

I ordered the Evo 212 from ebuyer yesterday with free next day delivery and it arrived today! wow! I managed to install it even though it was slightly tricky but got it done in the end.

I am happy as idle temps are between 17C - 20 C and under load (running any video converter) I am seeing a max temp of 30C so everything is sorted. Possibly looking at overclocking now :)

Many thanks for your help guys!
