It would help to know what other components you're using.The 780 would absolutely be better, but if your cpu is no good, then there would be no point, because it would bottleneck the gpu.

This site applies to the reference cards but you get the idea. If you can afford it the 780 Ti would be my recommendation, I have just bought an ASUS variant!
