a ssd will work in any computer. the variable is if your computer can take full advantage of a SSD.

short answer yes, you will benefit from a SSD.

EDIT: also what MOBO you have would be the required info to know about SSD efficency.

Depends, there are limited cases of a certain SSD not working with a certain mobo or laptop. I had to switch my intel 520 out of my laptop because it was causing crashes. Switched to a samsung 840 and had no problems, i use the 520 in my desktop without a single issue, so it wasn't the laptop or the SSD, just the combination of those two specifically. But this is pretty rare....
