Hi all,

The performance of my PC when playing games is normally extremely good but sometimes all games will run at very low FPS or will stutter.

Examples: ArmA 3 normally running at 40-65FPS at 1920x1080 resolution on custom settings that are just below High. Issue could make it run at below 30 FPS or run at normal FPS with a lot of stuttering.
War Thunder normally running at 80-120FPS on Max settings at 1920x1080. Issue could make it run at 20-60 FPS with bad stuttering.

I've noticed that these can be slightly improved just by alt+tabbing out of the game and then alt+tabbing back on or restartign the game. Setting the process priority to High can also improve it slightly. Often the only way to get the game running properly is to restart the PC.

I have done multiple reinstalls of my graphics card driver. I've tried installing about 4 different versions. I have also done a full removal (e.g. deleting registry keys) before attempting a reinstall. None of these have fixed the issue.

In the past I also had another issue that meant my PC bluescreened whenever I watched a video from Vine (even though I was viewing it on Twitter) or if I tried to watch a video I had recorded with my own camera. I tried about 5 different types of media player to no avail but luckily the latest driver version has fixed this. The driver identified as having caused the blue screen was atikmpag.sys. I don't know if this is related to the problems experienced in game.

Specifications are as follows:

Intel i5 4760K 3.4Ghz @4.2Ghz
8GB 2133Mhz Corsair Vengeance RAM
AMD HD 7850 1GB
2TB HDD
650W Corsair PSU

If a solution cannot be found then would switching to a Nvidia card be the best option as it would eliminate any AMD/Intel compatibility problems?

First, there are no Intel/AMD compatibility issues, any CPU will work to its full capacity with any GPU.

The atikmpag.sys causing issues, is very likely. The last time I encountered a bluescreen involving that file it was due to a faulty GPU. I ended up having to send the card to ASUS and they repaired it. Sadly, they never told me what they repaired.

Have you tried uninstalling the driver package, then running CCLeaner or Driversweeper, then doing a fresh install after a reboot?

I have not tried it with CCLeaner, just the normal uninstall/re-install and I went through files manually deleting all the hidden stuff that gets left after an uninstall.I will try that thanks.

Wouldn't those kinds of problems occur whenever I used the PC though? At the moment my PC works properly the majority of the time and these problems just occur occasionally (though still enough to be annoying).

Current temperature is 34 degrees C and I will check to see how this changes when I go on a game.
