Overclock failed HELP!

Ok, so I tried overclocking my APU CPU to 3.4 ghz from 2.9 with 1.4 voltage. That didn't quite work. Computer didn't boot up. So I restarted again, and it let me reconfigure bios settings. So I clocked it to 3.1 ghz with same voltage. It booted up. So now, I'm guessing, I need more voltage? Because I really want to clock to 3.4

Air or water cooling and with which cooler? Also what model of CPU?

Ya you have to get a better cooler before you OC. The stock cooler will not cool fast enough to allow OCing especially with that kind of voltage through it..

The best Cheap cooler is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

I've already overclocked to 3.6 and highest temps were around 50 celcius. I haven't noticed an improvement in performance in games. Why is this?

What are you using to test the load temps? If you can get 3.6 though why can't you get 3.4? More importantly though are you using the graphics or do you have a discreet card?

I was using amd overdrive instead of bios. But I can't really trust overdrive. And I'm using GTX 760. I'm using overdrive for the temps. Don't know if I can trust that either

Good that means the iGPU doesn't need to be OC. I wouldn't trust overdrive personally. I would get CPU-Z and HWmonitor and make sure everything (voltage temps) is matching up just to be on the safe side as something with your setup sounds off.

In 3.4 ghz from bios, I get 70 frames in full screen on GTA 4 but with 3.6 with overdrive I get 90. Should I use overdrive? Also, the overdrive OC settings don't save after a restart

And yes, my system is indeed a bottleneck with the CPU. Reason why I'm ovrrclocking

I would do the BIOS OC. you will have better control and your settings will also stay between reboots. If you actually hit 3.6 with overdrive you will also be able to fo it from the BIOS.

You might but what are your temps and voltages (under load Prime95 Etc.)? those are what will determine how much farther you can go.

Ok, we'll I just got a blue screen with 3.6 ghz with 1.42 volts. It was after increasing my fan speed on my GPU. But after turning on my comp again, it didn't say my overclock failed me this time. ???

Honestly, I think it's because I have my CPU set to 3.62 ghz and it went over 3.6. Or I just don't have enough volts to it, which I think is the reason

Now I'm getting blue screens every 15 minutes with 3.5 ghz. Should I just stick with 3.4? I think I may have broke something..

I doubt you broke anything. Best place to start would be drop to 3.4 and run some stress testing before you try to bump it up some more. Make sure you know your temps and voltages and watch them during the testing.

then I think it is time to start over reset everything back to stock and then test it to see where you stand.

My next choice would be to stress test and check temps and then raise the multiplier as high as you can without changing the voltage to give you a feel for what you should expect at each voltage.
