Should i change mem timings?

i have seen quite a few people with 1333 MHz ram using the 8-8-8-24 setting and suggesting that is optimal. my default timings are 7-7-7 and i am wondering if i should change them.

i am doing some slight overclocking of my old i7 920 and wondering if changing the timings would have any benefit.

i have problems if the baseclock is too high and the memory frequency gets over 1320 MHz.

i have PNY 12 gigs mem @ 1333 MHz.

thanks in advance for any advice!

Solution
No 7-7-7 timings are better than 8-8-8-24.
You might get a little more OC CPU with the looser timings but I don't think they are as closely connected on first gen core i as they are now.

ok thanks. one more mem subject question i have is when i overclock, if i change the multipliers to 6 and 12 instead of the 8 and 16 which are the default, i can go higher with the base clock. should i stick with the 8 and 16 or is it ok with 6/12?

That should work. You may want to run some benchmarks to see what gives you the best performance. It is hard to tell which gives better performance when the base clock is changed.
