Edit: ok, so just a link might have been a little harsh. So, Dell chat is free. You don't need to create an account and you don't need to provide a credit card up front. Depending on your warranty status they may be limited on the answers they can provide but basic tech questions are easy to come by.

After browsing forums and google, (which you could have done) I've heard people say you can upgrade to a Core 2 Duo. However, no one seems to be quite sure. Even Dell knowledgeable forum members! To be on the safe side I would simply call or do an online chat with a Dell rep. Provide them with your service tag and see what they say.

You will not be able to find out if you even can upgrade without opening your laptop and checking yourself. You have to actually open the laptop you have yourself and look. Some models in your range are BGA soldered to the board (which means you will not be able to upgrade them), and some are PGA, which means you will.

Should you have a PGA socket on your board, which means you can remove your GPU, the next thing you will want to do is buy a PGA Socket P processor for your laptop. It will fit and run, but if there is not socket you are screwed so check under the hood first.

The other thing to keep in mind is power draw, you want a chip that doesn't use more than 10 watts more than your old chip, or you laptop may fail to start.

I already did quite a bit of googling so you can do the rest yourself.

If you want to see if it works in your machine, go here and type the model number in the search at the top. Once you've clicked on it, make sure the Max TDP number is under 45watts and you should be fine.
