I have a set of 35 gig raptors that I had in a gaming rig back in the day that I would like to get some files off, before the pc they were in died I had windows Xp pro running,
Now I was thinking of putting together a low end second pc for media and some low end games,
My question is if I buy a motherboard combo that includes the processor and memory and has a mobo that supports raid 0, and 1 ( the drives were in one of these modes when it died) can I add my drives and boot it up like nothin happened? Or do I need to reinstall a fresh copy of xp when I put the the new rig together. If theres a bootable copy of windows on the drives it should just boot up right?? Any advice woukd help,

I have a 500w power supply, hard drives, cd-drives, case, and am currently looking at a mobo(which includes a video and audio, lan, etc) processor, memory , from what remember thats all I need to put a computer together

It depends if the drives themselves became corrupted, it also depends on the type of array you had before. you could try something like backing up the drives as an image using a disk imaging tool. If you want to look at raid 0 I still had this forum question saved on under my favorites http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread.php/91567-raid-0-disks-can-be-read-from-other-computer
The next thing you need to consider is the chipset differences between the two systems, I have successfully swapped out hard drives from intel systems and used them in amd chip set systems with just installing the different drivers. If you have another computer you can use Acronis True Image to grab the image from the raid and then wipe the drives and then implement the date later with Acronis True Image later once you have your raid set up. but there is still no 100% guarantee that this will work because of the motherboard drivers for each system, unless both systems are identical
