Mic not working

Windows 7 detects microphone but it does not pick up any sound. Strange because it had been working for months and then just stopped suddenly one day. I have already tried restarting computer, uninstalling/reinstalling audio drivers, etc. Also I do not have a dedicated audio card if that makes a difference.

this is probably all good but thought i would ask
when you right click on the speaker next to clock and go to recording devices is it listed as microphone and set for default?
then click on properties and under general tab is it listed as enabled at bottom under device usage
then on levels is the recording volume at least around 50
you should be able to test by clicking on the listen tab
