I hope I am posting this in the right place.

I have an AsusTek P5L-MX motherboard that currently is running XP pro sp3 32 bit for the operating system. Can anyone tell me if this P5L-MX motherboard will support an upgrade to the windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit operating system?

On the Asus support site I was of course able to find the drivers download for XP 64 bit and Vista 64 bit operating systems but nothing on the Asus site for windows 7 64 bit OS.

Please, if you can help me and let me know if this motherboard will support the windows 7 64 bit operating system and also where I can find the drivers for the motherboard, if I can use that operating system, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you very much.. Best regards.

I would install Windows, let Windows Update find all the drivers, then use the Vista drivers for anything not found. You can probably find any missing drivers online since a lot of boards use the same hardware.

There are no issues with the CPU as it does have a 64 bit instruction set. What I am unable to find in the Asus support site drop down window, is the Windows 7 64 bit operating system... IN other words, when one goes to the Asus support website looking for drivers for their Asus motherboard, one types in the model number of the mobo and etc, then it asks which operating system you need the drivers for.. There is a drop down windows that has several options, one option is XP Pro 32 bit or 64 bit and another option is Vista 64 bit and then there are other options but there is not an option to choose for the windows 7 64 bit operating system. There is not even a windows 7 32 bit option actually.. So, I understand totally what you are stating here and I understand that it is a cpu thing but there are some mobos than cannot support windows 7 64 bit because no drivers have been developed for them using that operating system right ..?? Could I simply install windows 7 64 bit and then use the Vista 64 bit drivers option that Asus gives me and then tweek probably the audio driver maybe and maybe an ethernet driver but what has me totally concerned are the bios flash (if necessary) and chipset etc drivers.

Thanks a million for any help you can offer. Best regards.

The Asus rep got back with me on the drivers for the P5L-MX for the windows 7 64 bit install. The rep told me of course that there was no support for the windows 7 on that mobo however, to use the vista 64 bit drivers and use the vista compatibility mode when installing them.. I will give it a try. I realize that this particular mobo is low grade but I have 2 customers who want them upgraded if possible so that is why I am trying to help them out.. Thanks for the info. Best regards.
