I have been trying to do a clean install using a USB 3.0 stick.
I have put the windows 7 .iso file using the microsoft usb/dvd tool and tried to do a installation but it kept getting stuck on the expanding files at a certain percentage(39%). It was stuck there for 30 minutes or more and the hard drive stopped reading the usb for some reason. So I tried again using a DVD this time and the installation worked perfectly. It was a little slower but it worked.

Did anybody else experience this? I tried to burn the usb stick using a 2.0 slot and a 3.0 slot but it kept getting stuck on the same location. Did I just receive a bad USB stick?

I don't know why it kept doing this. I got it to install using a DVD but I wanted to be able to put the windows 7 on the USB stick so I can have it portable. I wanted to know if it was common or if I need to get a new USB. It seems like the files are going in fine. I have used the usb to transfer files and it has worked flawlessly.

I am running
AMD a10-6800k cpu/gpu
Seagate Barracuda 1tb harddrive
Asrock FM2A88M-HD+ motherboard
LG Optical Drive
Corsair CX 430 power supply
Enermax Ostrog Case

Solution
Get the drivers for your USB and chipset from the manufacturers support site. Insert your USB drive and copy the files over to a folder on the USB. I made a folder on mine called drivers). Make sure you have the raw driver, unzip the files if they come this way or whatever. You should get down to bare .sys files.

Might need to add the chipset and/or USB port drivers to your USB stick, and then install the drivers during the Windows Installation (at the disk utility screen, there is a load driver option on the bottom left if memory serves me). I install from USB also, and have all the primary drivers in a driver folder on the USB should I need any out of the gate (and haven't had time to learn slipstreaming drivers yet).

Good Luck!

I don't know how to add the chipset or USB port drivers to my stick. Can you possibly clarify what I might have to do?
thank you.
