I finished installing Ubuntu 12.04 yesterday. When I booted the OS, it booted normally, but the setup would not start. A few minutes later, it said in white text "Continue to wait, Or Press S to skip mounting or press M for Manual Recovery." A few minutes later, the computer rebooted. I chose "Ubuntu" and it booted to the grub shell. I do not know the command to load the kernel and start Ubuntu. I need to know the command to start Ubuntu and get rid if this screen every time I go to start Ubuntu. Thanks!

This error should no be ocuring.
sounds as if your fstab is not pointing correctly to the partitions for some reason.

How did you go about installing? You can try to boot livecd and check to make sure fstab points to correct UUID for paritions...

What do you mean "it booted normally but setup would not start"? Has it ever booted to a working system? Could it be an issue with one of the new UEFI motherboards?

Do you know some cheap, but yet reliable 4.7 GB DVD's?

Does it require that you have a UEFI motherboard to use Ubuntu? I do not have a UEFI motherboard. I have never gotten Ubuntu to start the setup on this machine AT ALL.

No, UEFI is not required. It actually makes things more difficult. I am not totally clear on what is happening. You are trying to boot using a DVD or USB stick and you get the "Continue to wait..." error? Then you are waiting for it to time out and it gives you GRUB? So what happens if you choose "Try Ubuntu" in GRUB? What happens if you press "S" or "M" at the first screen?

I installed Ubuntu with Wubi. I am not trying to boot with a DVD or USB stick. When Ubuntu booted for the first time, it botted to the GUI. It then said in faint text "The hard disk for /usr/tmp/ is not ready or is not present." Under IT it said "Continue to wait, Or Press S to skip mounting, or press M for manual recovery." I think that is the listed path that it mentioned in the first message. If I press M or S, it did nothing until it rebooted. From there, it has been booting to GRUB and I need the commands to load the kernel and boot Ubuntu. I already know the command to boot the kernel.

OK, this is helpful information. Unfortunately I don't have any experience myself with Wubi. When you get to GRUB, what options does it give you? Usually GRUB gives you the option to boot whichever Linux systems you have installed. Is there no option to boot Ubuntu? It sounds like for some reason it is not detecting the partition or files necessary to boot.

Have you followed the instructions at this page? There is a section on what to do if Ubuntu fails to boot:

Generally wubi is not the greatest option. It is slow and unreliable method to install Linux...
Not surprised at all it is not working!

If you do not have DVD, make liveusb with LiLi.
