Hero would be first pick. ROG boards are the best in hitting better and stable OC of cpu clocks. Will support you all along gaming and overclocking.
Other board you can prefer is Asus Maximus VI Gene if you are looking for smaller form factor with similar results like Hero. Hero is go from me ;)
Regarding BIOS version, best stable update version is 0804. Just in case you feel like updating your bios, stick to that version on Hero motherboard.

i am simple user here trying to help you out as best as i can. No need to call me sir. :D
Coming to your question, regarding RAM i would suggest you get G.Skill Trident X series with the CL max of 9 and look for higher speeds after looking at CL value. They are best known for Haswell processors. For gaming, look for 1600/8 or 1866/9 (either in 1.5 volt) will be enough.
Regarding overclocking your processor, i don't think you should have any doubt with Hero's capability to overclock your cpu. To know the highest overclocking capability of your processor, use the 4-way optimization technique for the best results. Make sure you get a better aftermarket liquid cooler for your cpu.
Here is video for 4-way Optimization:
