My MBP suffered water damage and will not start leaving me with a HDD that I cannot access. The HDD was encrypted with file vault 2usinf OS X Lion. I would like to know if I I use an external HDD case will I be able to access it, if not where can I get the data retrieved from.

Put the disk in an external case then boot the system from it. It should then act exactly as it did in the original system, so you can then copy the data from it. This only works if you know the password to log on to the system, which in this case you do.
